What are Vegas to Grand Canyon NON-tour bus options?

Need purely a transportation option -- not tour. I need to start ~9am in the morning and start back from Grand Canyon next day in time to reach Vegas in late evening. Thanks.

1. Hire a car is the best option.
2. rent a car.or do a helicopter tour.if your driving this in the summer, Its very crowded and you may run out of time before you see much. Its a beautiful drive and in winter, you could do this trip to the south rim. Not sure in the summer as I am told long lines in and out of park. the route to the south rim takes you right over the hoover damn and lake mead. Very pretty
3. Scenic airlines has a package that you can fly to the south rim, get bused to the canyon and then stay overnight and return the following day. www.scenicairlines.com I have used them before and sometimes there are coupons at www.destinationcoupons.com.
