USA Bus Lines

Is it worth it to rent a car while in St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida?

I have seen where you can take trolleys and buses, but I didn't really want to mess with the whole schedule and waiting thing. I AM trying to save on money though. Has anybody used the towns various transit systems and are they easy to use? Do they go to most of the beaches? I'm staying in a hotel near Clearwater Beach, but am going to make my way to other beaches all the way down to Fort De Soto. Thanks!

  1. You pretty much have to have a car in the entire Tampa Bay area. There are areas of downtown St. Pete where you can get around ok without, but you will be very restricted as to where you can go and when. In general, Tampa and area is very pedestrian hostile.
  2. Yea you will need a car.
