Help, school bus driving, transit vs conventional?
Help, I trained on a transit bus, and we pick up our buses on Monday, I know I am scheduled for a conventional bus, didn't get a chance to practice on the old ones, should I refuse to drive or is the odds in my favor since I trained on the transit? Transit has no hood, vs old style with hood, my first year for school busing kids. Please help!I kept telling them to work me in so I could at least have alittle time to check it out, but time is up, and I don't want to look stupid Monday morning.

- You will be able to handle it, just take your time and be careful on turns!!
- Better to look stupid than be dead or worse, have a bus-load of injured and confused kids. I teach truck drivers, and I teach both conventional and cab-over. If you have ANY real time in the transit style, you will do fine with the conventional. Just remember the extra hood space out in front. A TIP:---> Try to remember when you turn, no matter how wide or tight, your vehicle will pivot at the rear axle. Keep that in mind, and give yourself plenty of room all around, front & back, and extra time for intersections, and you will catch on quick. And just as with trasnsit, be careful not to tight-turn your rear on driveways, curbs and gutters. Good Luck
