Greyhound Timing/Bus Schedules?

Are greyhound busses, usually ontime to their stops? What happens if they are late and you miss your transfer? My transfer layover is only 55 minutes, is that enough time? Thanks for the speedy answers! Tell me, if you are asleep when you hit your transfer location, any chance you will be awaken? I sure hope the driver announces the stops!

  1. IF they are late they are late, and they are late pretty often. If you miss your transfer because greyhound was late getting you there, then they have to make sure you can still get to your destination, which may mean your route gets altered a little and it may take longer. 55 minutes is pretty normal for a layover time with greyhound.

  3. I have researched this some lately myself.I met a girl that works in a ticket booth at a stop. She said that the busses usually run close to on time in the morning but the later in the day they get later and later. If you miss your bus, usually you can catch the next one which may cause major discomfort in waiting(depending on time of next bus).DON'T lose sight of your driver because some of them don't care if you are on or not. GOOD LUCK to you as well. 55 minutes may seem like an eternity depending on where you are.
  4. First of all, most Greyhound schedules only run 2 to 3 times a day, especially between small towns. This means that if you miss your connection, you may have to wait several hours up to 24 hours for the next bus. This is not the city bus where there is another bus 10 minutes later! 55 minutes is a normal layover. In fact, most buses depart 5 to 10 minutes late anyhow. Bus schedules are pretty loose and have about 30 to 45 minutes of "buffer" time between major cities. This means that if a bus leaves 20 to 30 minutes late, it will still get to the destination on time or a few minutes late. Of course this is provided that there are no whether problems. You need to keep on top of you connections. If you think the bus is going to be late, ask the bus driver if he can call your connecting station and ask them to hold the bus. More than likely they will automatically when there are more than 2 people transferring. Some drivers will insist that they will make it on time and there is really nothing you can do with these drivers. If you miss your transfer due to bus being late, most Greyhound stations won't do anything for you except reticket you on the next bus, which like I mentioned earlier, may not be for 7 to 24 hours. Few stations, and I mean few, will put you up in a hotel if the layover is at night. You have to ask because they sure as hell won't offer it to you. But for the most part, you'll be lucky to get a free meal voucher at the snack bar. At almost all major cities, you have to get off even if you are continuing on the same bus. This is so they can clean and refuel the bus. If you are connecting at a station where they do not need to fuel the bus, then everyone is not required to get off. So you would be solely responsible for making sure you get off. The driver will not wake you up. You might ask the person sitting next to you or across the isle to wake you up .
