What is the best way to tour the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas? Okay, I'll be in Vegas from Sep. 1 thru the 5th. I'm thinking of taking a day trip from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon. What is the best way to do this? planes, trains or rental car? I just wanted to get a feel of what the Grand Canyon is like to prepare for a more longer stay on my next visit (camping & hiking). I'm leaning towards taking a bus tour that takes us to Hoover Dam, Route 66 and all other Desert stops. Let me know guys and girls!
Are there any car rental places around Killarney, Ireland that would rent to a 20 year old? My friend and I are traveling around Ireland this summer and would like to take a day or two to do the Ring of Kerry drive. We could take a tour bus, but we would rather go at our own pace so we can stop wherever we want. Unfortunately, we will be 20 and the lowest age that they will typically rent to is 21, but maybe there's a place that didn't show up in any of my research!
Bus or Car for day trip to Grand Canyon from Las Vegas? I can’t decide whether to visit the South Rim from Las Vegas for the day via a tour (bus) company or rental car. I’ve priced the bus trip at about $180 for two people. Car rental is about $30, excluding gas. My key criteria for selection is time at the Grand Canyon. I have no problem being picked up from my hotel at 8 a.m. and returning to it (in Las Vegas) at 9 p.m. But I’ve heard you can get to the South Rim faster via car, and spend more time there, as opposed to frequent stops by the bus. The only thing that concerns me about rental car is entrance into the Grand Canyon – I’m assuming it’s not expensive to get into the park. Any suggestions? Any route maps to the Grand Canyon via car.
Rental Car , Bus or Train to Nationals game in Washinton DC? We are going on vacation next week to Baltimore and Washington DC. We have never been to a place where there are trains or subways and all the traffic. We have rented a car but would that be the best way to travel to our tour locations in Washinton and Baltimore or the Nationals MLB Game? Please understand I need it put in simple terms becausue a previous question asked "How deep does the DC metor go?" I don't know what that means. Please help. We want to have the best time on our vacation and not spend all the time in traffic. Thank you!
Has anyone ever seen a manatee in the Dominican Republic? It is on my bucket list to see a manatee. I will be at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo in the Dominican Republic in December. I would be open to taking a bus, car rental or tour if necessary to wherever on the island to see a manatee. Has anyone ever seen one there? Locals please help!
How far is Iguassu Falls from Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro? I want to buy a vacation package for Rio and Buenos Aires, and would like to see Iguassu, as well, but it is too expensive for all three. I was wondering if it is possible to take a day trip there, either by rental car or tour bus, from either city and return to the city hotel at night. Anyone know?
What are the best attractions in London? I want to visit London England, but before I book my travel, I would like to know from local people about the best things to do and see while I'm there. I have done research on the web, but I am still unclear. I know that I want to take a guided bus or walking tour, but which is the best company to go with? I want to see all the major attractions, but what is the best way to get to them? Bus, rental car, taxi? Thanks a bunch!

Do I need a rental car in Puerto Rico? I'm staying in Rio Grande for 3 days and hope to do the following: -spend one day in San Juan -visit El Yunque -visit Culebra/ Vieques -snorkel Should I rent a car for my trip or opt to go with a tour bus/ taxi instead?
I need to know the average cost for a band to play at a mid - size venue? im in a media studies class and we are doing this project where we have to create a record label and a band and go on a 10 day tour. We have $100,000.00 to start off with and we need to account for a tour bus, truck rental, food costs, equipment, merchandise, CD's, and the actual cost for 10 gigs at 10 different venues. I can't find out how much it costs for a band to play at a mid size venue for a gig so i was wondering if any one could help? ok so i don't really know everything about venues but i guess i mean about a 400 person size venue, indoor or out door. it doesn't have to be all that special.
Car rental day trip near San Francisco? So we are going to SF for a 4 day weekend and I was thinking of taking a bus tour of Muir Woods. Would it be better to just rent a car and go ourselves? Best suggestions for a one day road trip out of the city?
Has anyone else experienced bad problems with KOA? I have stayed at many KOAs in Florida and a few in Georgia and Tennessee. The ones not in Florida were excellent, for value, service, and attitude. Most of the ones in Florida so far seem to bite big time. I had one in Lake City that was "on a lake" (the lake was mostly dried up and had 8 foot weeds growing everywhere, couldn't see the water), one in St Augustine acted like a Russian boot camp and would only rent the paddle boats between 1 PM and 5 PM, if they felt like unlocking them: On our trip, they said they weren't for rent because they had a tour bus comming in. What? One in Orlando (Lake Wippoorwill) advertized one-room cabins, but they aren't cabins, "they are hard-shell tents", and one KOA in Mims, FL says wood fires are not allowed, not even in the BBQ pits because it is against State Law, when the real reason is so they can charge a $100 deposit plus a daily rental fee for a "portable fireplace". Other KOAs deliver firewood. Has anyone else experienced KOA problems?

Ideas for a 2012 US tour? Hi Next year I'd like to travel around the US during a gap year I'm taking. As a student I'm obviously on a low budget, however, I'd like to explore as much as possible during the 6 weeks I'm there. I think I'll stay in youth hostels advertised on this site, https://www.hihostels.com (if you know different cheap accommodation in specific areas these are welcomed) I'm not entirely sure how I'll be getting from state-to-state, what would you recommend? Train, rental car, bus? Also, I haven't yet booked flights, I'll be flying from London, what airport would be the best/cheapest to fly to? Obviously I won't have enough time to visit all states, so I think I'll restrict it to the popular ones on the US' coasts (California, NY, Florida etc). Although, if there's anywhere you'd particularly recommend please say. Google Map routes would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time,
Please Help Me, First Time Planning Vacation? I've never had to plan a vacation before. I've always gone on family trips. But now, my boyfriend and I are planning a trip, just the 2 of us, to Las Vegas for our 10th anniversary. We are looking at going from October 27th- November 4th. Our anniversary is the 3rd, and we want to go to the UFC fight on the 29th, that's why we are looking at staying for 8 nights- to encompass both events. We're flying out of Rochester, NY. First, we can't decide what hotel to stay at. We would love to stay at Trump, but it's pretty expensive (cheap for a 5 star, I know... but we want to be able to have fun while we're there and not spend all of our money on our hotel room since we don't plan on being in the hotel too much anyways). What are the best 4 star hotels to stay at, in your opinion? We don't give a crap about the pool, we just want a nice, clean, quiet room to stay in that's walking distance to the action on the Strip. Doesn't matter if there's a casino in the hotel or not, as long as we can walk to some. I'd like it not to be overrun with children/families if possible, but we're 27 so we don't want a teenage party hotel either. We'd also like to visit the Grand Canyon for a day but NOT ride a tour bus. Can we take our rental car and still be able to see the West Rim and the Skywalk? Will it cost an arm and a leg to see it this way? Lastly, does anyone have a restaurant suggestion for our anniversary night? We want to go somewhere where the food is delicious, but it doesn't have to be all fancy and frilly with ingredients we've never heard of. Just a nice, normal, but awesome place... if you know what I mean. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I'm drowning in the details of this trip! I've looked at Trip Advisor, Priceline, Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotels.com, Hotwire, and Kayak, thank you. I'm looking for more one-on-one advice for MY situation. And I don't need to be told to "get a grip"... there are many other details I'm trying to figure out myself, these are just the "big" things that I would like some assistance on if people are nice enough, which clearly some aren't. And I don't think a sweater/air conditioning will be an issue- I live in NY, we have snow 6-8 months of the year, haha. 50 degrees means it's time for shorts and t-shirts. But thank you for some valuable help. Thanks, I appreciate the responses. To the one who said 8 nights is too long, I disagree. You've gone many times. This could very well be the only time we get to go, so we want to see everything. We have diverse interests and aren't just going for gambling and strippers. We want to see all the hotels, the free shows and attractions, go to the nearby national parks, etc etc etc. We don't live in a big city, so this will all be new to us. Thank you for your other tips, though.
How do I get to Buffalo, NY from Watertown, NY then to Canada? What bus transits/train or any transportation besides taxi, rental cars and plane may i use to get to Buffalo from Watertown, NY? All this traveling without a car, HELP PLEASE!!! A website is helpful as well. I plan to leave tomorrow morning: )
Renting a car from the Las Vegas Airport - any suggestions? Going to Vegas in June and thinking about renting a car. There will be my husband and I and we are taking our daughter, 2 nieces and a nephew. I'd love to take them sightseeing to the hoover dam. Should we rent a car or take a tour bus? Also - any suggestions on what rental company to use. Thanks! Its expensive to pay per person for tours on a bus, especially when you're talking 4 kids. We are staying at a very nice place with a pool and play areas for kids, which is how we'll spend our days. At night I plan on taking the bus with them to see the different shows infront of the casinos. And they all love shopping so that shouldnt be a problem hard to solve.
Can I travel around Patagonia without a guide or tour? Not hike or off beaten track. I am fit 71 year young.? I have a reservation to cruise Antarctica from Argentina and return. I want to see what Patagonia looks like, but guided tours are very expensive. I bought guide books and maps and it looks like I can travel around easily by rental car or by local buses and airliness. This is in mid-Dec. beginning of summer there. Have frequent flyer miles from USA by way of Santiagoc Chile or Buenos Aires, Arg. I do not want hosteling, trekking, sharing rooms, camping. I speak pretty good Spanish & was in north of Argentina 35 years ago, driving an American car alone. No problems. If you have done this or read and heard stories about it, let me know what you think, but tell me your expertise. Lets say I have $3000 on the high end and $1000 on the low ended. I really prefer an escorted tour w/o a lot of hiking, but they are really expensive . Thanks Ushuaia - This is where I am starting my trip. I see there are good rental car companies. Do you think it is better to rent a car or take buses around the region? Flying home, of course. Ushuaia - This is where I am starting my trip. I see there are good rental car companies. What's the best way to see the Grand Canyon? What's the best way to see the Grand Canyon? My husband has a conference a few hours away from the Grand Canyon so we'll have a rental car and can visit the canyon next Sat, Sat night and all day Sunday & Sunday night. What's the best way to see the Canyon -- rail, bus, drive ourselves, South Rim, North Rim etc. I'm from Louisiana and have never been out West. Anybody know anything about the Grand Canyon railway which is a South Rim tour or should we skip that to see the North Rim?
Best way to do a tour of the USA? Have considered renting a car, Greyhound buses....? Hi. Next year we are doing a three-month tour of the USA (as part of a round-the-world trip). We are from the UK. We are arriving into San Francisco and driving all the way across to Boston, Massachusetts. At first we considered renting an RV, but the cost was astronomical for that length of time. So then we downsized to a car, and this is also very expensive when you add in the one-way fees and fuel costs. So are current idea is the greyhound buses for most of the trip, with a car rental for one week for the old "route 66" bit between Flagstaff and Oklahoma City. Also there are several stretches on the Greyhound buses that are overnight, so we would save money on hotels for a few nights. What do you think of this method, what are the Greyhound buses like? Does anyone have any other ideas of how we might travel? Thanks!
Tried to be nice and now others are trying to take advantage of me? I work on a military base and coordinate leisure travel for off-duty travel. My office has several tour buses that we rent out to make money. I was nice and let the Cadet group on base take a bus free of charge to be in the Veteran's Day Parade. The base is far away from town and they had to make several trips so they likely used around $75.00 in gas. They didn't pay for gas either. I wanted to do something nice for the Cadets since it was Veteran's Day, but I got in trouble with my boss for renting out a bus free of charge as well as paying for their gas. My boss told me I was not to rent the bus out free of charge anymore and would have to charge a fee if they used it again. Well, one of the admins for the Cadets inquired about getting the bus for the city's Christmas parade in a few weeks. I told her they would need to pay a fee to use the bus. She freaked out at me. Then she said things like "Well you let us use the bus for Veteran's Day and now all of a sudden you're going to start charging us?" I was afraid this would happen when I tried to be nice. I guess no good deed goes unpunished.... The admin doesn't even think they should pay for the gas. And I'd give them a good deal too: I'd be cutting the rental fee in half and just have them cover their mileage. But to the admin this was unacceptable and she's going to go talk to my boss. It's aggravating that I try to help out another group on base and then this happens. I even got myself in trouble to get them a free bus and they didn't even thank me. Now their admin's going off on me because I won't give them another free rental. What should I do? I'm not going to go against my boss again and let them take the bus for free. But in the next few days I'm likely going to be confronted by officers about the bus. Probably going to try to intimidate me into letting them take the bus for free again. Thanks for your help!
Europe Itinerary Suggestions please? I'm doing 6 weeks in Europe with a friend April & May 2011. Only 7 months to go, WOO! Okay so this is our itinerary so far. The first half (up until Paris is set, because we've made reservations already- didn't want to miss on some brilliant deals). What I need help with is after Paris (and also Wales- because we won’t have a rental car. It's not worth it the cost, we’re too young 23/20) So basically, we would love tips on our Germany/Switzerland/Italy ROUGH itinerary. And a few tips on public transport in Wales- and easy places to get to by train or bus that are still "local" feeling & will give us a real experience of the country in Wales. I understand getting around Wales is difficult without a car? FYI we're both into Art & Music. so any festival tips greatly appreciated!! Here goes: London 8 days Wales 5 days- We are interested in Snowdonia Nat Park- is this possible to do without a car?! It looks beautiful ! Liverpool 1 day Paris 12 days Germany 6 days ^^^This is where we need help! We want to do the Romantic Road, is it better to start from Wurzburg- so take a train straight from Paris>Wurzburg & work our way down to Munich on a tour bus. OR is it better to do a more direct train Paris>Munich and then do a 1 or 2 day trip up & back on Romantic Road with a coach tour? (we didn't plan on doing any guided tours, but without a car we have no choice) Also, included in this 6 days is a day trip to Salzburg. I want to see Mozart's house. I'm sure it's not much, but I need to see it with my own eyes! Switzerland 8 days Please tell me- is Lucerne worth the trouble? I hear it's packed. Plus I read that May (the time we're going) is the peak snowboarding season. Is this true?? This is what we had in mind: Munich>Zurich. 3 days in Zurich Zurich>Lucerne. 2 days in Lucerne Lucerne>Engleberg. 2 days in Engelberg WOULD IT BE BETTER to do this: Munich>Zurich. 5 days in Zurich including only 1 day trip to Lucerne (is it close enough?? Please tell me travel time one way if you know! Thanks!) Zurich>Bern. 2 days in Bern. Bern>Engelberg. 1 night in Engelberg (is this worth it?) Engelberg>Como. 3 days between Bellagio/Milan. Milan>Paris>London>HOME Sorry this ended up HUGE. Any tips on the Germany/ Switzerland part MUCH APPRECIATED. Thank you very very VERY much. Thanks. Yes, I've done a lot of research on this over the past few years. I've given 2 weeks to England & Wales. 2 weeks to Paris. And 2 weeks split between Germany & Switzerland. Finishing in Italy only to see como for 4 days and go to Milan only to come back to London to come home. The places we have chosen are due to CLOSENESS. We haven't just picked random places from a map. My question is about my plans for Germany. In particular Romantic Road- is it better to start at the top and work down, or just do it in a 2 day tour- see the main areas. Also the best way to move around Switzerland. Like I said, I cannot hire a car. I'm 23, and the minimum age is 25. Or some companies allow 21+ plus a kidney and the deeds to my house.. No thanks I'd rather bus it than stress about a car I don't even own. Rental cars are nothing but trouble. This trip was originally over 3 months, but my friend can only take 6 weeks. So it is severely condensed.
Traveling in Canada and Niagara Falls Airport (IAG) help? Hi, I will be going to Niagara Falls in June. I am flying into the Niagara Falls Int'l Airport which is in NY. I'm having trouble finding a shuttle that will take me from there to the Marriott Fallsview Hotel in Ontario. There doesn't seem to be any rental car agencies in that airport except Enterprise and they are closed on Sundays which is when I'll be coming in. Anyone know any other way I can get to the hotel, bus, train, etc? I also would like to visit Montreal and Quebec City. Would trying to rent a car the best option, or is there a tour bus or train that would take me to those cities affordably? I noted that Montreal is very expensive to stay in. Any nearby cities that are a bit more affordable? Any suggestions would be of great help. I feel so lost! I really would rather drive because of the flexibility. Would it be very difficult, even if we were to take the more scenic, less congested routes?
Urgent help/advise needed! Seoul,Korea trip in April? Hi, my cousins and i (5 of us) are going to Seoul in mid-end april for about 9 days. Out of the 9 days, we'll be going to Jeju for a 2-day short trip. This whole trip is Free N Easy. And now we are looking for accommodation which is making us go crazy because we just can't decide on the best place/area to stay in. This is our first time to Seoul and we really need your help and kind advise. We really appreciate if anyone of you could help us in this decision making. Here’s for your guidance:- Places we would like to visit in Seoul (not in order) 1. Namsan Park/N Seoul Tower 2. Everland (I think this place takes a whole day) 3. Lotte World (Does it take a whole day?) 4. Namisun Island (Does it take a whole day?) 5. Cheonggyecheon Stream 6. Banpo Bridge (Will most likely check it out during night time. Heard there’s a night tour bus. Has anyone taken it? How was it?) 7. Around Hongik University (For free market, is it worth a visit?) 8.Gyeongbokgung Palace (To witness the changing of guards) 9. Myeongdong (Shopping) 10. Dongdaemun (Night shopping. Heard shop open till morning, is it true?) 11. Itaewon (for Muslim food and to visit the mosque, cousins also want to check out Hard Rock) 12. Ewha Women University (Heard the area selling lots of women clothing. So, likely checking out the place too) 13. Is there a place to try out hanboks? Or get Korean clothing/textile? We’re thinking twice about going to Namdaemun. Because we heard that the area mostly sell clothes for the older generation and nothing much for young adults/teens? Is it true? For accommodation, we would like to stay somewhere with good location whereby we can easily go to the places mention above by subway/walking (save cost on transportation). I think the area we should stay is around myeongdong, dongdaemun or itaewon, which we are having trouble finding a good place. My cousin’s relative also said that if we could find apartment for rental during our stay is good. He actually suggested an apartment in Dongdaemun, near Doota Mall. But he can’t recall what apartment it is. Does any of you know? We found the Han Suites Residences which is located Chung-gu. We thought the location is actually quite ok. From website, they mention that Myeongdong, Dongdaemun and Itaewon are within minutes. How true is that? Also, we planned to take the 1 Bedroom Deluxe (1 bedroom/1 bathroom/1 Hall/1 Kitchenette) but the staff said that there is a company policy that the room is for maximum 2 people. They said, if there’s 5 people, we should take the two bedroom premier which is expensive and also we prefer sleeping in 1 room. Do you think it’s ok to ignore what the staff said and just book the 1 Bedroom Deluxe? Or will there be any problems at the time of checking in? Other than Han Suites Residences, other relatives suggested staying at Hamilton Hotel, in Itaewon. One thing good about Itaewon is maybe because there are many other tourists like us staying around the area, so, it won’t be difficult getting around. But when we saw pictures of the hotel, we were not really impressed. So i’m not sure if it’s a good idea to stay there. They also said that there are a lot of shops there. Are there? Just came across Inside Backpackers (located in Jongro-gu) and saw that they also have kitchenette, though the sleeping area is quite small. Price is good.. but bathroom wise, i’m not too sure. If any of you been there, care to let us know? How about staying at Dongdaemun? Is it a good idea? That’s where the night shopping is right? We did thought about staying at East Gate Hotel but just afraid of the travel time, cost, etc. Cleanliness plays a part in choosing the right place to stay, so appreciate if you can give feedback or suggestions of the best accommodation. Otherwise, which of the ones mentioned above is good to go ahead with? Also, are the places mentioned OK? Or are there any other places which we missed out? Await yours. Thanks a lot!
Rental Cars in San Juan, PR? I'm going to Puerto Rico next week...staying near the airport (near Ocean Park). I know there are taxis but they are expensive...and I know there's a bus system but it's said to be unreliable. I'm thinking about renting a car. We'd be okay taking the bus into Old San Juan for 1 day... but it would be nice to get a rental car to go to the rainforest one day and Luquillo Beach while we are near there... What I'm asking is this: 1) Do you think its better to get a rental car for a day or two to see the Rainforest or take the tours they offer (there would be 3 of us going) 2) Which rental car places would you recommend in San Juan? Do you know any of them? Their costs? 3) Should I book online for a rental car down there or get one from a local place? 4) What is insurance like when renting a car down there? There's the cost and then how much to be insured for someone who is 28 yrs and an American? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
Alaska Travel Question? I am planing on going to Alaska this August. This is somewhere I have always wanted to go and I'm 25 and am starting to get old now and want to go before its to late. I am starting to get sore and stuff when I play soccer or go running. And when I get hurt it takes like almost a week for me to heal now. So I figure I probably have about 5 years left until I wont be able to hike or do anything really strenuous anymore. Well my stupid GF wants to go with me. She is not experienced at all with hiking. I have a little experience with back packing I have been on a couple over night trips at Mount Rainier National Park. So I do not think she will be able to handle going on a 2 or 3 day hike which pisses me the F*** Off!!! We probably will only do day hikes. But anyways I am planing on flying up to Anchorage AK. I heard that there is a lot of different places that you can access from there. Now these are my questions we are going to be there for a week. 1: She wants to go to the Arctic Circle So I saw there is a Flight you can take or a bus tour. Which one do you recommend? Sounds like the bus tour you can walk around and explore more but the plane tour might be cool to see everything from above and you take a bus ride back. 2. Can you drive to Fair Banks from Anchorage? How long does it take? 3. Should we rent a car or just use public transportation? I saw that there looks like there is a train system or something of that means is it worth paying for the rental car or will the train take us were we need to go. 4. I want to go to Denali but I heard that to get on the shuttle is insane and you might be waiting there forever. 5. She also wants to see a glacier so where is a good glacier spot to go to? 6. Hotel or cabin? 7. Should I buy bear spray? Or would I be allowed to bring my friends rifle with me? Thanks a lot! Sorry for all the questions.

Question about vacation to Chicago for you Chicago or former Chicago residents...please read...? Got a great rate at the Blake $625 for 4 nights w/free parking (we will have rental car). Bringing two kids and hotel has no pool and sounds like the free breakfast is minimal. Thinking of booking hotel by Midway instead (one with pool) and taking train downtown for the two days we have planned to tour city (taking Gray Line bus tour). Car would stay at hotel, take hotel shuttle to airport and take train downtown. Do you think messing with public transportation is worth the hassle or should we just stay at The Blake and deal with no pool and have nothing to do one whole day while hubby and older son is at Cubs game. What is best way to get to Wrigley from either? Would love some help with this!
Is it worth driving a car through the countryside in Scotland? I am planning a trip for next year to Scotland, and the places that we are planning on visiting aren't necessarily accessible by train or tour bus. We want the freedom to explore anyway. How expensive are car rentals in Scotland (note: we're planning to go far north, possibly further than Skye), and are the roads relatively ok to drive outside of the city? I've heard that city driving is impossible... I was trying to find out more about the cost of renting a car, as the cost of gas is much higher there than in Canada... My mother is from Scotland and says that driving can be a bit....intense....due to the fact that a lot of the roads are single lane.
Travel suggestions for an American tour? A friend and I are on our way home to Australia and New Zealand. We are heading from London to New York in mid December. From there we have a month before we catch flights onwards to Australia and New Zealand. We were thinking New York to Washington DC, Chicago, Miami and onto Las Vegas then LA. If anyone has any suggestions on the way for us to do it and what we should check out , id really appreciate it!. Our budget is limited and we are probably looking at a mix of car rentals, flights and buses/trains. Many thanks G Theres just too many awesome places in America to check out in only one month and its so huge!. We only have a month.. from December 14 to January 14... that will make it winter!. Maybe we will fly to Miami and then take the southern route via Houston to LA? What should we check out in all these places!?. We both like bars, clubs, girls, scenery, monuments etc. I defiantly want to see the grand canyon.

Traveling to Normandy, France and need some info.? I'll be traveling to Normandy, France this May and have a couple of questions that will help me plan my trip. I plan to arrive by train from Paris. Here are my questions: 1) I'd really like to see the D-Day beaches once I get to Nomrnady. Can I do this all on bike or do I need a rental car (or a group tour). I'm a pretty experienced biker and can cover a good amount of ground in one day. 2) After Normandy, I'd love to hit Brussels for a day or two. Is there a way to reach Brussels from Normandy by either train or bus. I can't find any information online. Thanks for the help One more thing - please respond only if you know the answer and have been to Normandy. Telling me what you have seen on TV is not very helpful. thanks

Going to Italy Sept 2008? My husband and I are Australians (NSW) in our late 40s and have planned a "once in a lifetime" holiday to Italy now that the kids have gone. We are not seasoned travellers although we drove both islands of NZ 2 years ago. Hubby doesn't like the idea of a guided tour (stuck on a bus with no freedom to explore) and wants to drive. Accommodation and entry to most tourist sites will be pre-booked. We are staying 5 days in Rome, 3 days in Chinque Terra, Venice, Sienna, Sorrento then a week in Umbria at a villa and will do day trips from the hotels. Any advice on car rentals, driving, siteseeing or hints/tips would be appreciated. Love to talk to anyone who has done similar or might be going at the same time.
How to arrange for a day trip to National Park de Hoge Veluwe and National Museum Paleis Het Loo? I'm interested in a day trip from Amsterdam (close to Centraal Station) to both National Park de Hoge Veluwe, specifically for Krőller-Műller Museum, and National Museum Paleis Het Loo. Checked a few rental car companis like Avis/Hertz and the work hour are something like 8/9am to 5/6pm. It seems to be too rush to go back by 5/6pm if I'm visiting both places. The question is more of three: 1. Is there a rental car company close later, say 8/9pm, that's close to Centraal Station? 2. Is public transportation a viable option? I heard it's about an hour's train plus 45 min bus to just one of the place. 3. Is there any tour company organizing such tour that I can just sign up for it? This is going to be part of my family's vacation in Amsterdam next week. Thanks in advance.

Could I get around pretty well without getting a rental. Such as sightseeing tours, assesibility of cabs, availibility of buses. Hell any info at all for a tourist would be greatly appreciated! I don't want to stay in Disney resorts, but planning to take park hoppers. Can I use Monorail? Hi we are planning a Disney tour,we have 3 days of which we are planning 2 days to tour Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. For 1day we will be having a rental car,we want to park it at Epcot and go to Animal kingdom using park hopper. So the first day we will tour Animal kingdom and a little bit of Epcot. And the Second day,we want to catch Lynx 111 from our hotel to TTC and tour Magic kingdom and rest of Epcot. I don't know if this works but I have a few doubts...1.Since we won't stay in Disney's resorts, can we use monorails? 2.How to go from Epcot to Animal Kingdom, there is no monorail as per my knowledge. If buses are provided can we use them with Park hopper tickets?
How do I get from the Kahului airport (Maui, HI) to my hotel in Lahaina inexpensively? Trying to stay cheap and eco-friendly. No use in renting a car for just me. I am on a really tight budget. I am only staying for four days. Three days only if you account for the travel times. I plan to rent a bike to explore around the Kaanapali and Lahaina area. I already have some tours and activities with transportation all set up so for those three days I don't really have a need for a rental car. I've looked into some airport shuttle services, and yikes (!) they are pricey! Taxi's are out of the question. Possibly is there a bus system? Mahalo plenny for your advice!
France for 3 weeks - is this itinerary too much? Hello, We need some advise, my wife and I are travelling to France for 3 weeks at the beginning of May 2011 and then on to Italy for another 3 weeks. Our first point of arrival in Europe is Paris and we hope to spend a few days there and then hire a car and visit the following places: Paris - 4 nights Reims - 2 nights St Malo - 2 nights Brittany 3 nights Borduex 3 nights Montpellier* Marselles* Nice* * about 4-5 nights Lyon - 2 nights From Lyon we intend moving on to Italy, but haven't gotten as far as planning our driving in Italy. Can you'll please let us know the following info: Do you think the above is possible in 21 days? Or do you think we are crazy? Best mode of transport for France: car or public (train/Bus) Do you'll think if the above tour will be too tiring? Would it be cheaper to drive or take the train/bus Any recommneded places to stay (B&B's preffered) at any one of the destinations? Any nice sites we should visit along the way - old, quaint villages, historical sites etc? What we should take with us. Approx costs for hiring car/recommeded car rentals particular fuel efficient cars? Safety tips Toll costs and any other useful info. I know the above questions are a long list, but appreciate all your help. Thank you.
Traveling to Los Angeles/Hollywood? I'm going to be traveling to Los Angeles in February, but I'll only be there for one day and won't have a rental car. I really want to try out Pink's (the hot dog place), Randy's doughnut shop (the one with the statue of the guy holding the doughnut) and visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I can't seem to find any tour busses that go to all three locations and was wondering if there's any way to get to all three places in one day (preferably within about 5 hours time) If there's any way to do this without having a car, please let me know. All serious answers will be very appreciated.
