Am I wrong to feel jealous? Here is the background. I have been friends with two guys who are room mates. Almost a year ago they knew i was going to be getting a loan from my 401k to pay some bills. They were planning a trip to vegas and asked if they could borrow some. So of course i said sure. It was supposed to be about $900 but they asked if i could make it an even $1200 so i did. No questions asked. The two of them went to vegas in feb 2008 and they were planning on going back in may. They asked if i could go too and i said i could not afford it. They said the airfare and hotel they would take care of since they owed me money. So we all went and had a blast. They then decided to go again in august and again they wanted me to go but i said i could not afford it. I had just quit my job and was waiting for my money from the sale of my stocks. So the two of them went with another friend. And used my luggage again. Now here it is january and one of the guys was going again wih another friend. And he made the comment that he wished i could go too. He knows i am just working pt now and can not afford it. Plus there is the issue of the money they still owe me. Right now it is about $400 ( which they have not payed me back any they just have paid my way on the trip and helped me out with rent)Yes if they would pay me back i could go. Or even offer to pay my air fare and hotel i could possible swing it. And again they still have my luggage they are taking. And the other night the comment was made about having to pay for long term parking at the airport which would be about $30. So i offer to give them a ride. Which means they don't have to pay for parking or wait for the shuttle bus. I pick them up right at the curb. And the more i think about it, the more upset i get. They did not offer me any money for gas. Not that i was wanting them to pay but it would be nice if it was offered. And they called me from vegas and said they really wanted me to go next time. Did i mention that one of the guys that owes me money has in the mean time gotten a new laptop, a flat screen tv, and takes his signifacant other out to expensive dinners at least once a month. I am talking about $100 for the two of them. So i am feeling a bit jealous and wonder if i should or am i just being a baby about the whole thing.
Sacramento Regional Transit District desires to sell 8 acres on Cemo Circle for residential development? How might one prevent the proposed sale to developers a parcel owned by Sacramento Regional Transit District located on Cemo Circle in Gold River {Rancho Cordova}California. Designated as Bus Rapid Transit it should not result in condominiums but should be used as park and ride/ bus car park and paired with a route traversing nearby Citrus Rd. closed to autos & currently maintained as a bike trail by Sacramento County on one of the most congested corridors in a 6 county area. Electric trolley or bus would shuttle commuters to the Sunrise Light Rail station only one half mile distance by passing underneath highway 50 and arriving within 5 minutes to Sunrise light rail station. Sale of this property seems to violate RT's stated Values/purposes and simultaneously will render useless an expensive bridge abuttment over the American River designed to carry a light rail car. 5000 residences and businesses exist in this 25 yr old area between the river and the highway with NO bus service. If you had to make a list of everyone who relies on horse racing to make a living, who would you include on it? This is just a fun trivia style question for everyone who is a part of racing or who follows it. If you had to make a list of all the people who make their living from the sport or are connected to it in some way, who would you include? I'm not really interested in NAMES, mind you, but rather categories of professions that are tied to racing or are part of it. One reason for doing this survey is to show the PETA lovers who come on here ( you know who you are) that there is more to racing than just the owners, trainers, and jockeys. Those of us who work or live in the industry ( or are connected to it in some other way) know that it's a multi-billion dollar business in addition to a sport. So, I invite everyone to take a crack at naming all the categories of people involved with the sport. This is just for fun, really, so try to be polite with your answers. I've included a partial list below, to help get things started. Professions connected to horse racing: At the track(s): Racing stewards Paddock judges Starters Gate crews Jockeys Escort riders Grooms Hotwalkers Feed, hay, and bedding providers/dealers Tack sellers Vets and Vet Techs Equine massage therapists Equine chiropractors Laboratory Techs/Assistants Camera operators Cashiers Food service/restaurant workers Busers and wait staff Concessionaires Valets ( parking) Valets/Agents ( Jockeys) Chefs Parking shuttle drivers Security guards ( in the stable, on the grounds) Groundskeepers/landscaping crews Trainers ( horse) Trash collectors/sanitation Housekeeping staff Concierges ( at tracks with hotels) Outriders Exercise riders Truck/van drivers Laundry workers ( at hotels) On the farms: Breeding manager Foaling attendants Yearling managers Grooms Groundskeepers Sales Reps Sales agents Bookeepers Breeders Publicists Feed, hay, and equipment sellers Farriers Vets and vet techs Miscellaneous: Airplane pilots ( cargo and passenger) Air traffic controllers Truck/semi drivers Limo drivers Taxi/bus drivers Attorneys Auctioneers Bloodstock agents Equine appraisers Realtors and real estate agents Like I said, this is just a partial list to help get people started. Feel free to add your own additions. I could go on forever with additions, there are so many. Here are a few more: Photographers Clerks (including the clerk of scales) Announcers Software Engineers/programmers ( someone has to be able to program all those slot machines) Printers Meteorologists ( a must for airplane pilots and drivers) Specialty vets ( including reproductive, lameness, equine opthamology, etc.) Nutritionists TSA and other airport security agents Computer programmers Official Timekeepers Telecommunications Techs (these are the guy/gals who fix the phones and keep them running) Racing secretaries Paramedics and EMS personnel Ambulance drivers ( human and equine) Mobile starting gate drivers ( on harness tracks like the Meadowlands) Equine dentists Silks designers/makers Boot makers Painters Carpenters Electricians Plumbers Port-a-John providers and servicers Architects Landscape Artists/Designers Interior Designers Traffic supervisors Right of Way agents Videographers Chaplains and/or other clergy members Blimp pilots and crew members Blimp or overhead camera operators Floral designers/Florists ( someone's got to be able to put the wreaths and bocquets together) Wine merchants/sellers And on some tracks ( such as Churchill, Pimlico, and Belmont) : Band and Choral directors Musicians
I want to be a roadshows coordinator but how do i get my foot in the door to a major investment bank? I work for a major corporate limo company, have great experience on the phone and hands-on with many of these roadshows coordinators from all the major investment banks in NYC (Citi, Goldman Sachs, Dresdner, UBS, Credit Suisse, Lehman, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley). I literally go around the city and make note of all the major investment banks these roadshows clients (non-deal and regular) go to frequently (Clay Finlay, Tiger Asia, Kingston, Maverick, Deutsche, etc.) And map out the buildings and where their entrances are, where the cars can wait (since it is like hell trying to stand anywhere in the city with bus lanes or double-parking preventing that). I am like obssessed with having visuals on where all these clients go to, how long it takes to get there, which airlines they frequently travel on, which airports, airport/airline codes, the best vehicle types to suit how many passengers, how large to go if they have luggage, all of that. Whatever I have ever done (I pursued a stage career before this), I have always obsessively put my whole heart and soul into, wanting to know every aspect of it to my best ability, not as a know-it-all, but for myself, to be proud I know exactly what I'm doing and can perform the best 110% of the time. So, with that said, I frequently deal with these coordinators who, even though they are literally scheduling meetings with the same exact investment bank accounts over and over again (if u know roadshows, u know whether it's a real ipo or a non-deal, they go to the same companies in every city on almost every roadshow trying to pitch sales), they STILL put in wrong cross-streets for the addresses, don't know that even though they buy a ticket for a United flight from LGA to BOS that it's only marketed as UA but is really a codeshare on the US Air Shuttle, very practical things like that which come in handy - it surprises me, but also makes me think maybe I should be making the mega-bucks, doing THEIR job. Some of them, the top ones, are heads of the marketing division, called roadshows coordinators or some bs title like in the capital markets or IR divisions - at Morgan Stanley, they have these girls that sound like straight out of college valley girls who don't know the travel industry or New York AT ALL and have us do EVERYTHING for them - and it's pathetic because I feel I could be doing their jobs. So what do these people do beyond that? What are the qualifications? I have a BA (in Music), and I have roughly now about 3 years of solid work experience (with about 5 years of other misc office/temp experience behind that). Any thoughts? I am not good in math, but I don't think they handle a lot of that except doing invoice work and paying the limo/travel agency/airline/etc companies that are involved, but no hard stuff that would be more on the banking side. Let me know.
