Trains like SMRT and SBS Transit - East-West Line, North South Line, North East Line and the coming Circle Line in 2011. SMRT Buses and SBS Transit Buses everywhere in Singapore. First Class Taxis Services. All have but why people think that Singapore is still short of transportation?

Why are Airlines and airports run like buses and bus depots in America? I just cam back from Asia. I flew Singapore airlines, Cathay Pacific and Thai airways. For starter, the flight attendants are way nicer and prettier than those on US carriers. Food services and on board entertainments are fantastic. Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul airports are phenomenal . The look more like hi-end shopping malls than airports. We are first world country and why can we have things better or at least equal to those.

Visiting Pulau Tioman from Singapore? Hi, Can someone give me following inputs about Pulau Tioman? 1. Travel time to/from S'pore - including connections. 2. Travel cost (using bus/boat/air) 3. Staying options (decent accommodation and not a backpackers den) and costs. If you know the hotel phone number as well, it would be nice. Since my elderly parents will also accompany, I am looking for a good place to stay. 4. Approx time required for a decent sightseeing. Are 2 days enough, including travel to/from Singapore? 5. Costs to visit various attractions. Are prices negotiable or fixed? 6. If some travel agent in S'pore provides nice service, pl let me know. Regards,

Do you think that the Singapore Botanic Gardens is for the rich? No other parks/ gardens in Singapore is as lushly landscaped and it is free. You will see tai-tais there. Does that mean they pay more tax they get a better garden while we just make do with other parks? The garden is in the middle of the District 10 (just outside CBD). Isn't it paid for by tax-payers and there is no different between different kind of tax-payers? Why a garden that provides free admission and services (3- 4 information desk) to only a small group of people? A playground for them to work-out and use as a public park? Isn't it suppose to be a Botanic Garden which mean more of an attraction and research (think of zoo...etc)? Not a place for tai-ji for rich old folks and expat joggers? It is a public garden and not a place for the rich. Problem is it will remain an "exclusive" garden for many Singaporeans as they will need to drive there or take buses there. Where is the fairness in this? P/S: I do admit it is FREE for all regardless of your social standing or financial standing. But what I am saying is that if you look carefully, it just do not make sense. You get services like free dog poo bags, free poncho if it rain, lots of brochures, free concerts...etc. Do you get all of that in Bishan Park, East Coast Park? It is an attraction, as such it should be chargeable like Botanic Gardens all around the world. Thus no one communities can make it theirs. Come often and you will notice what I mean. I hardly see a lot of Singaporeans there (except these people with means). Would like to see more Malay Singaporeans there, maybe Maciks and aunties doing kebaya-taiji there?
Could anyone help me with my writing assignment's spelling and grammar mistake? "Trapped in the traffic jam? You gotta pay for it!" This is no joking. Guangzhou municipal government is promoting a new proposal to relive the traffic jam in the metropolitan area during the rush hours. According to a recent report, traffic congestion fee will be charged according to the type, size and usage of the automobile. The officials said the plan is still in the evaluation, not even in the consideration of final approval. However, the topic triggered a hot controversy among citizens. Figures released by the Guangzhou Metropolitan Daily suggest almost 90% of citizens hold a negative opinion. [1] Despite great resistance by the automobile owners, policy makers are not likely to compromise. Reasons given seem to be very convincing. First of all, charging congestion fee is universally applied; Singapore, Rome and major U.S cities have adopted it and witnessed some success. More important, congestion fee is charged against the “occupation of public resources”, to be specific, roads. As vehicles volume in Guangzhou is reaching its extreme capacity, major roads during the rush hour are heavy crowded, so congestion fee is a perfect valve adjusting the traffic influx in the downtown area. Meanwhile, comparing with current vehicle tax, it's a relative small amount. Thus burden increase is limited. While I would believe these fees for traffic jam may be oriented from good purposes. But if not dealt well, the charges may finally put the government into the dilemma, fearing a public backlash. Here are a few reasons to believe so. Congestion fee is not an ideal way to solve the worsen traffic conditions in large cities. On the contrary, government does. Government should act as a service provider, and its priority is to improve its management on traffic, provide fiscal support to roads construction and meanwhile control the over blossom of automobile production. Besides broadening the road capacity, greater efforts should be made to enhance the poorly functioned public transit system. It’s not yet a proper time to consider such a fee before all the public transit systems reach their ultimate potentiality, and if congest fee is charged these problems would still exist. To make it more critical, congestion fee will raise great public concern. One of them is the legislative foundation on the charge. In 2002, the State Council issued a regulation clearly announced that no more local administrative fees introduced for registered automobiles. It also stressed raising fees without permission is strictly prohibited, so does expand the scope of charges. [2] This means, if the congestion fee introduced, it would face series failures in lawsuits against it. The government will have no choice but face the public suspicion towards its policy, which may eventually harm its credibility. Last but not least, it would aggravate the already heavy fiscal budget. Automobiles for administrative affairs take up a large share on the roads and most of their expenses are covered in the budget. If the charge implemented, the annual automobile expenses of local government would level up tremendously. "Improving urban road traffic is the responsibility of government departments, rather than vehicle owners." A professor from Zhejiang University believes that the government should be blamed for the downtown traffic jam. But now they intend to "transfer" the responsibility to the vehicle owners by let them paying the congestion charge. "Does it make sense?" As far as I'm concerned, instead of charging car owners, the government should come up with more effective ways to reduce traffic jams. They should further develop public transportation and improve roads and their management. Charging fees will not help alleviate traffic on the whole at all. We welcome more bus and metro services, more roads and better management, not bills. References: 1.Jun Shi. Congestion fee won’t reduce traffic jams. Guangzhou Daily Electronic Edition. can you help me check my grammar :P ? There’s just so many transportation in Singapore and not just a subway. In fact in Singapore, it’s not called a Subway it’s called the MRT station at the acronym of Mass. Rapid. Transit. And there are couple more transportation models, bus and taxi. I think the cheapest and safest transport to hop on is the bus, it cost at least about $1 or 80cents and all we need is the ezlink card to hop on with, also the approximate number of passengers is about 2.34million passengers on daily trip. The efficient transport is the MRT, the price is expensive yet it’s reasonable unlike the bus because the bus usually is full, longer to wait and not much place to sit as the bus is not wide, whilst the MRT is bigger and faster. Normally, I travel around with my mom car otherwise using MRT. The tips I could give for foreigners or travelers, is that they could try, look at the map or ask for directions or go to the customers service centre at every station.
How much money do I need to travel for 6-8 months? I’m planning on taking a year off after high school to work and travel. My funds are limited, so I won’t be travelling for an entire year, only 6-8 months. I’d like to go to Thailand, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, and anywhere else I can get to within that time, but I’m not sure where I my budget will allow me to go. Here’s my problem: I’m not sure if I should go on a few volunteering trips or just travel around without a set plan. By volunteering trip, I mean where I pay a few thousand dollars ahead to volunteer a few hours per day and have a few hours off, and food/accommodation is included. It’s either that or I stay in a series of hostels, travel around by bus/cab/foot or whatever, and just see the country on my own without doing any actual work. Which would be more cost-efficient? I am looking to spend about $5000 (not including flights) for the entire thing, is this realistic? If so, should I volunteer or just travel? And if I"m only travelling, how many countries could I see with (around) that budget? I do not want/need to stay anywhere fancy or ritzy. I just want comfort. I would like to stay in rooms with comfortable beds and clean facilities, where my possessions can be safe, but no need for 24 hour room service or even air conditioning. When it comes to food I don't mind eating from street vendors or inexpensive places, even buying groceries and cooking at a hostel. I need comfort but not luxury. ANY help would be greatly appreciated, I’m obviously very clueless when it comes to this!
