Do you have to stop when a school bus stops at a railway crossing? I live in Ontario, Canada. Yesterday, a small school bus flashed it's lights to stop at the railway (as all buses have to). I saw people in the opposite direction stop for the bus, but I didn't. Are you supposed to stop for a school bus that stops at a railway, even though they're not letting kids on or off? If so, I thought you only had to stop for a school bus if it's stop sign was out, or children were being let on or off of the bus?

We had this argument, because the school bus moved to the side behind a railroad track. I was the driver here and he was on the passenger side (he doesn't have his drivers license yet and he failed 2 times on his driving test). So recently I was driving behind a school bus (not tailgating, just to let you know) when suddenly the school bus drove to the side and stopped behind the railroad track, there was no train coming or anything it just stopped to the side. So I stopped behind the school bus but not where the school bus was at then my friend yelled at me and told me to go around it. I told him that I wasn't suppose to go around or pass the school bus when it stops right in front of you. Now here, it was kind of confusing, the school bus didn't have flashing red lights but I still stopped behind it. Was I suppose to go around it? or wait until the school bus starts going? Who was right? OH! And if certain states have certain kind of rules, I live in California.
School bus stops? Lets say you are on a 4 lane road. A school bus has stopped (let's call this lane 1) . I know that the car going in the same direction (lane 1) behind the bus has to stop and the remaining car in the other lane (lane 2) going the same direction has to stop. Ofcourse there are oncomming traffic So I have to wait till its clear. (2 Lanes each road). Too young to be at a school bus stop alone? My step-son is 8 years old and his father and I are disagreeing on whether he should be able to go to the bus stop alone in the morning. He doesn't have to cross any streets, and would only be out there for about 6 minutes and it is only about 2 1/2 houses away and I'd be able to see him and hear him from my window. In the winter I definately take him out because it snows here and we sometimes have to walk in the street to get to his bus stop but with the warm weather here I see no problem with him being able to walk out to the bus stop or standing there for a few minutes. I see some of these parents who let their children who are obviously younger than he is walking to school by themselves and crossing streets that have no crossing guards and some of these streets are pretty busy streets. Is he being too over protective or should I just let it drop and take him out? There are no dangerous people in out neighborhood that we know of. We have even gone online and looked to see if there were any known pedophiles in our neighborhood and there isn't. Our neighborhood is a very good one...a few families with kids and a lot of elderly couples.

How to fire a public school bus driver? All the students on the bus have issues with her? My brother rides a school to and from school, but the bus driver who is a female, is consistently a pain to deal with. We have had problems with her for over a year since my brother began to go to that high school. I can safely say almost all of the students hate or have problems with this bus driver. What are the rules for the school bus on picking up children.? Hi I have a 5 year old who will be starting kindergarten in a week and the school has yet to determine whether or not it will come to our house or meet us down the street. We live on a cul-d-sac and there are no other kids on our street that will be riding the bus. The problem is the road we live off of is a dangerous road with hills and blind entrances. Does Illinois have a law that requires the bus to stop at a safer spot. I guess I always thought for the little guys the bus would come and stop in front of their house. The school he will be going to is not large at all, maybe 30 kids per grade which goes up to grade 3, so the amount of kids is not the issue and the bus has room to turn around on our road without backing up. In Michigan, what is the penalty for running the lights on a school bus that isnt stopped yet and no sign out? Was driving next to a bus in the left lane, and them in the right, they put their lights on and started to stop while i was already next to them and so i wasnt able to safely stop. There was no sign, i wasnt speeding, & i didnt switch lanes to go around it. Next thing I know I have a ticket and have to talk to the magistrate about it.
