If you had a racing greyhound, what would you name it? We're at the dogtrack, folks! The dogs are in the starting gate, ready to go. What's the name of your race dog??? ........ ..... Aaaaand, here comes Speedy! (fyi - Speedy is the name of the mechanical rabbit that the greyhounds chase around the track) My dog is named: Alpo Burner.
Who are the best racing dog rescue groups AND greyhound racers in the Sarasota area? I'm writing an article for my college's newspaper about greyhound racing in Sarasota (the Sarasota Kennel Club and its track are here). Of course, the article is inherently going to be kind of sad and will, to many people, make greyhound racing look "bad," but I understand that I need to get information from both sides of the issue. I would like to talk to someone involved in greyhound racing as well as someone involved in greyhound rescue. Which are the best organizations for these two topics? And if possible, who are the best people to talk to? And would I be allowed to take pictures? I wanted to ask beforehand because if I called up, told them who I was, and did anything wrong, it would make my school look bad. I just need to get to know my subjects before I contact them, or else I might offend or piss them off. Thanks in advance!
Is there any city in America that has live horse and dog racing? Phoenix was the last one that I knew of, but Phoenix Greyhound Park stopped live racing last year. I was just wondering if there was any cities that had both within 50 miles or so. Houston is the only other city I can think of but Sam Houston Race Park only offers quarterhorse racing which just isn't the same as regular tracks.

Has anyone been to a greyhound race track??? I am plaining on going to one tonight and placing some bets, do you think you have a greater chance at winning here than the casino??? I am going for fun but I would like to win some money...anyone have any suggestions to how to pick the winning dog??? I know there are like 7 or 8 dogs who race can I place a bet on all the dog on one race?? If not, then how many dogs can I bet on per race?
Anyone want to adopt a retired racing greyhound? I am involved with a group called rescued racers, a racing track in kansas is shutting down and there are going to be a lot of dogs looking for forever homes. We adopt out about 100 a year, but this year there are many more looking for home. If you are interested go to rescuedracers.com. ps. this is in the st. louis mo area.
greyhound betting help? Any help on betting on greyhound dog races? this is my first time going to a dog track and i was wondering if theres any help ya'll can give me. greyhound park in memphis
Dog racing- is it really abusive? I was at a rescue event with my BC foster, and our rescue's booth happened to be set up next to greyhound rescue. 99.9% of the dogs they get are right off the track. I was talking with one of their fosters about this, and I was actually surprised to find that most of the people in this particular greyhound rescue were not opposed to dog racing at all. He said that if you actually go to a race, the dogs are obviously happy. Also, they take the fosters to the track sometimes to get donations and awareness, etc. and the dogs just light up when they are even near the track. They had a couple of dogs that were literally taken off the track a day before, and these dogs did not act like they had ever been neglected in any way. They were typical, lazy, greyhounds with no real problems. I always thought racing was a little cruel, especially how expendable the dogs seemed to be, but apparently until they retire the dogs are having the time of their lives. What are your opinions on this? Does anyone have any experience with a racing greyhound or retired racing greyhound? That's what I meant. Are the conditions surrounding racing abusive? Where they are kept, how much their fed, how often they have to race, etc.
Racing Greyhound Records? I'm looking for records on my adopted greyhound. none of the links on that thread have any info except greyhound-data.com and according to this site, my dog - KD Hope , and all the others in her litter never raced. this site also says her father, a big time champion buzz around has been in zero races. Went to the the track but they dont keep records. and i KNOW she has raced because the local dog park i've met a guy who lost money on her, and a girl who was a leadout at the track who brought my dog out to race. i need to find REAL records. the pedigree on the web site great but there are no racing records. my dog http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=147775... and her chapion father who has nothing but zeros next to his name - never raced http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=34131 http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=1477753 dont know why they put in dots at the end of it the first time TO TROLL: since someone else already corrected you on the pedigree, i do know she raced for sure. i said in there ive met someone who used to bet on her and a leadout from the track that used to work with her and lead her out to the starting gate Thanks to you guys I Found .... something. i have NO idea how to read it. I actually have been to this site before but it always comes up page not found. today just certain frames were coming up page not found until i hit refresh enough times that it worked. so someone PLEASE tell me how to read this thing <img src= http://www.deafl.com/other/KD_Hope.jpg> <img src=http://www.deafl.com/other/KD_Hope.jpg> http://www.deafl.com/other/KD_Hope.jpg ok good the last one worked you can click on that link to the pic
Do you agree with greyhound racing? I have thoroughly researched the greyhound breed. This is a medium to large size dog that has an average need for exercise (i.e. the usual amount of exercise you would give a dog of this size). They are obviously very fast and have high levels of stamina but do not necessarily love to run. I am now completely against greyhound racing as I recently worked in a greyhound rescue and most of the animals they had were unwanted racing dogs that were either too old or had stopped winning on the track due to problems with their joints (i.e. arthritis etc.). After further research I looked around and found that it is actually very hard to buy a greyhound puppy as they are always bought by people/bred by people that intend to use them for racing in order for personal gain (i.e. to financially profiting from them). I am shocked that so many people are ignorant and think that this type of 'sport' isn't considered a blood sport. "They love to run bla bla bla". I feel this is absolute rubbish, just because they can run fast doesn't mean they want to or should. One of the dogs I nursed was very badly emotionally scarred and would freak out at the site of a white transit van (as these are the type of vehicle they spend most of their travelling lives). What do you think about it and can you provide me with a justification (please don't use the usual, most people that race their dogs treat them very well rubbish, it is ALL about the money, just like certain areas of Crufts is about the cosmetic appearance of the dog). I welcome your oinion on this matter. I think greyhound racing should be banned (as the Grand National should). Thanks to everyone who has answered so far, there are some great informative educating answers in here. I appreciate and take on board what everyone has said. To the person who mentioned couch ornament, no dog of mine would ever be treated in this way (greyhound or not), all dogs need exercise. I just don't agree with the conditions these dogs live in. 'Force', if a dog is trained to do something, it will do it.
Can you raw feed greyhounds? I have a puggle and we raw feed her(give her raw meat and bones for dinner) We are thinking of getting a greyhound and we're not sure if we can raw feed it. by the way this greyhound will be an X racing dog. We would get it from a greyhound racing track that is closing down. Thanks for any help you can give me!
How to convince Dad to let us get a greyhound? My Dad has had dogs before, when he lived with his parents they had poodles, both miniature and standard. Neither me or my Mum have ever experienced owning a dog, and my Mum has always wanted a greyhound. My Mum and me were talking to my Dad about adopting a greyhound and he kept saying that he didn't want one, he'd already had dogs before and yeah it was lovely but there was loads of restrictions that get put on your life. But the thing is, we know people that, if we wanted to go away for a weekend, who would look after the dog willingly, she absolutely dotes on dogs since hers died. We have time for a dog, money for it, I'd be more than happy to take it for a walk no matter what the weather, I don't care about picking up the poo I'd do it. My Mum wants a greyhound, she absolutely loves them, and I have a real soft spot for them too but there seems to be no convincing my Dad. I don't think it's fair, since we live here too, I'm not old enough to contribute paying the bills I'm still in sixth form but my Mum owns half of the house so it's her decision too. It's not like we'd be getting a greyhound puppy either, we live near a dog racing track and we'd adopt a retired one. There seems to be no convincing my Dad and I don't think it's very fair on either my mum or myself. What do you think? Do you think there is any way of convincing him? "mutt for truth" or whatever your name is. Get a job? There's a recession going on NO ONE can get a job right now, believe me, I've tried it. Move out? I'm seventeen, unemployed and in sixth form, get over yourself. Also - I've brought this up with him- he has a giant fishtank in our living room that he wanted, and a cockateil that needs love, affection, is quite expensive and poops everywhere too. Both animals that he wanted. I'm not saying I don't love the cockateil though. But either way, it's only fair that if he gets what he wants, we get what we want too? The cockateil is a real tie, you can't leave her when you go on holiday cause they start plucking their feathers from lonelineness. They also live a long time as well. I'm not saying it's exactly like having a dog but there's similarities there.
Doesanyone know where i can get a greyhound puppy from ? I live in the north east (England) and i want a grey hound puppy for a pet and not racing. All of the ones ive seen advertised are priced very high as they are for racing at the dog tracks and not pets.iv heard that there are a lot of puppies killed as they are not perfect for racing but dont know how to get in touch with anyone who might be willing to give me one of the puppies that are unsuitable for racing.
Is Greyhound racing abusive? (in your opinion)? I have a rescued Aussie and a Greyhound that was a dud on the track. The Aussie was horribly abused and will never be a "normal" dog. The Greyhound seems like the epitome of a normal dog. She's only 2, and she's playful but still the world's fastest couch potato. I heard something about Greyhound racing being abusive, so now I'm curious. I've had several rescued dogs that had been previously abused, and my Greyhound is nothing like them at all. So it seems to me that she came from a responsible owner. Anyway, what do you think about Greyhound racing? To the first poster, I know that's not completely true. My Greyhound was a total dud. She sucked on the track. Never won a race, almost always came in last. But, her owner sent her to a greyhound adoption place and then we got her. She was raced, 5 times. I've seen her records. She came in last almost every time.
Is a Greyhound a great dog to have as a pet? anyone had/have one? I would like to have a greyhound as a future pet. Anything you can tell me about Greyhounds? Also I want to have it as a puppy first. Maybe I would get a grown one that retired from racing track. I read about the "Save the Greyhound" foundation. I dunno....get a greyhound puppy or grown greyhound like age 5. Where could I find them? If you have one or had one....where did you get it from? hmmm....I would let it execersize a lot. Perhaps I could get a puppy and a grown retired racing greyhound. They could be best buds. Is there a rescue center in the US? I live in the middle of the US w/ all the tornado's
Can Greyhounds make good pets? My wife and I try to abopt animals when we can. We noticed that in many areas where there are dog tracks there are listings for Greyhound adoptions. We have a large house but a small yard. Are racing dogs trainable and if they are, what do they need to be happy?
Greyhound dog advice? My husband & I have been married for almost 2 years & have no children (not for another 7 or 8 years) but we do have a cat. We were interested in getting a dog, & we have been researching Greyhounds for quite some time. I know that they do tend to have the instinct to chase (due to their racing background) but many are cat tolerable. I have a few questions for grey owners: Our cat is 2 years old, 16 lbs and pretty much docile, but at times runs through the house & wants to play. I used to dog sit, & she has been with 2 Jack Russels, an Airedale & a Dachshund on many occasions & pretty much stays away from them. Do you think our cat will be receptive to a greyhound & vice versa? (I would separate them during the day when we're at work just to make sure.) We live in an apt (1145 sq. ft.) & live next door to a high school with a running track. Would this work for exercise if the grey is kept on a leash & is taken out quite a few times a day? Do you think a grey would be right for us?

Is it the track or is it my legs, or is it the job itself? I work at a Greyhound race track. Through out most of the day I am their, we jog or sprint up and down this dog track in the hot sun for 4 hrs. The track is compacted sand and the track is not exactly flat. It's at angle. Like / but not as steep as /, but you get the point. We have to wear high-top shoes to prevent broken ankles or sprained ankles. I've been working at this job for about 4 months now, and 1 month ago I injured both of my knee's while working their. My left knee was the first to act up then it was both knee's. What caused this injury from what I believe, was because for 2 weeks straight we had no breaks. We weren't even allowed to sit down. It was just a non stop jog for 4hrs straight on and off this sandy track built at an angle. At the time when I first got injured, my knee's would have a slight ache to them and they both would have pressure above the top of the knee caps. I had x-rays done and nothing serious showed up on the x-rays. So for the next 3 weeks I was on "light duty work". Mostly sitting around at a office desk all day till my legs got better. I would take long walks at home at the end of the day, and my knee's showed signs of improvement within a short time frame. After 2 weeks of the taking long walks I begin to jog non-stop for 30 minutes without any knee pain or pressure. Once I felt my knee's were doing better, and my orthopedic saw I was doing better, I returned back to full duty. 2 days already back doing full duty we are once AGAIN we are short of people, and so once AGAIN, no breaks for no one. So for 2 days we had non stop jogging for 4hrs straight on this track built at angle. Both of my knee's begin having pressure again, so I had to return to light duty work. What could the problem be? I am only a 20 years old. Male. 6'1. In really good shape and before I even started to work at this job I was doing cardio 7 days a week (3 mile run), and weight lifting 3 days a week for 2 years and I never ever had leg problems until I started to work at this job. So what is it? We run on this track that is made of compacted sand and it is built at an angle. We have to wear high-top tenashoes while working. So these are the shoes we are jogging in we on this "track". Most of the time we are jogging 4 hrs everyday, non-stop, without any breaks of any form.

I am trying to relocate a old movie,? Which I think may have ben a Walt Disney film and in it there was a cheetah that got loose at a greyhound race track and outran the dogs! Any help appreciated.
should greyhound racing be banned?? it isn't fair i think it should be band!! i have a dog that is a x racer he got kicked out cause he was too fast for the track and couldn't make the bends properly so they threw him out on the streets untill some1 rescued him and we got him !his name is romeo hes a really big black greyhound with white socks lol hehe so what do you think bout this ??
When did Milton Keynes dog track close? Also, was it an ngrc registered track? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Reason for asking: The rescue that I got my greyhound from told me that he was found as a stray. I traced his history through his ear tattoo and found he used to race at the MK dog track, and his last recorded race was not long before he was picked up as a stray. I know many dogs are discarded by the racing industry when they are no longer considered good enough, but what seems strange to me is that he WON his last race. We've had the dog a while now and he's showing no obvious sign of injury, so I was wondering why he'd been thrown out (and if the date of the track's closure coincided with him being dumped). I'm not from MK, so would appreciate info from anyone with local knowledge. Thanks.
Greyhound and Toddler? My family and I are considering rescuing a retired racing greyhound. We have done copious research, and we are now wondering how, since we have a toddler, both the grey and the child can be on the floor together (with supervision) and still remain safe. We are concerned about hygiene, the dog tracking dirt into the house, etc. We realize greyhounds don't shed much (incidentally one of the reasons we decided on the breed), and we hope to adopt a grey who does the same, but we wouldn't like to have our toddler ingest/inhale any stray dog hairs. It's not practical to vacuum every time the dog is on the floor, however, we will vacuum the living room every day. I also read that someone trained their dog to wipe his paws before entering the house. Any tips regarding that bit of training would be helpful. Thank you!
Buying a Greyhound as a puppy? Im almost done with college and i was planning to move towards VA beach kinda more into the countryside but still close to VA beach. And the place i am looking to buy has a lot of space... and it will all soon be mine. I can't wait. And i would like to have a dog, just because its the countryside and the circumstances would be a little more different. the dog won't bother people because their is nobody elses property for atleast an acre. And since its such a huge space having some dogs around would be very helpful. I've done some research on greyhounds and id rather not buy a retired racing dog. Since their was so much space i was thinking of spending some free time in building a small home built track. Just a simple oval. None of that pro racing stuff and i don't plan to "race" the dogs i get. Since greyhound pups need an outlet i will probably get 2 because they can't be left alone for long periods of time. And let them race on the track and i think it would be great to just watch my dogs run. And i can just do some 100m sprints with them somedays when i feel like i need a tough workout. Of course i'd loose since these things can go 40mph if ur dog is a beast. But maybe they'd just play around wit me and let me win once in a while. I don't have a problem raising the dogs, and their circumstances seem easy to accomodate. They need indoor because of the weather and they can't handle cold/heat. They have thin skin and little fat so they need a lot of soft bedding which is very easy to deal with. And so are their raises feeder/water bowls. Only problems i see are dealing with tick meds, and if they need to go to the vet for a serious issue. But im the type of person thats allergic to animals. Well im just allergic to anything dirty. and Cats are freaking dirty. im super allergic to cats. Its not i can die type allergy but its annoying as hell. I can deal with smaller dogs and a lot of my friends dogs are the "non shedding" type. the internet has been telling me these dogs don't have that under coat which causes all that shedding. But im not sure if im fine with it. Because i haven't actually done any real extensive testing on it myself. If you are the animal allergic type like me, or if you know somebody like me. That has been around greyhounds and in that same environment for an extensive periods of numberous accounts and they had almost little to no allergies. Please let me know if the greyhounds effected you or ur friends. and how does a greyhounds coat feel like? it looks really shimmering so im guessings its that more softer type hair. I hate the dog hair that feels like its bristle brushes. Like labs. Dauschund dogs have nice hair i've felt their fur and im hoping the greyhounds is somewhat like theirs. And please do not think i am capable of even trying to raise a racing dog. im a pure ameature and i wouldn't know how to teach them to race, and im not trying to professionally race them or recreatoinally race them. I just need them to get that outlet to workout because they are hyperactive when young. So please do not think i will beat them and starve them and just make em race 24/7 until they break in half. If that is what is making you second guess giving me helpful information on greyhounds. Thanks. Jenny i live in the US. their isnt a single puppy breeder inside 500 miles of my Area code... The net says most of the greyhound racing is in the british isles. So ima have to get one shipped from there to here. Or me go to there and take it back here.
Hey have you herd what happends to racing grey hounds PLEASE READ QUICKLY PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!? Hi well I am doing research on raceing greyhounds because if they dont run fast enough they are either beaten, hung from a tree, shot, left at a labratory which cut off their heads, At the end of each race there is a vet waiting to kill them and thrown on a kill truck. And are thrown in empty feilds and they all live in a box sometime4s only let out to race. The poor dogs are constantly muzzeld also are starved to death or fed 4-d meat which is scraps from rendering plants which willm kill the dogs eventualy if you would like to see the pics of what happends to these dogs go to www.greyhounds.org then click on what racing tracks dont want you to know then scrool down to what says the proof is in the pichures please checki this out and please help by donateing and spreading the word Yes this is true. Not all greyhounds are so lucky to be rescued or die a quick death. Many suffer every day! lets help spread the word I wrote a letter to the president and still know word so please help check out greyhoundracingsucks.com
How did my dog get his name, you think? i have a retired racing greyhound, he raced in florida and mass. his racing name was "Hallo Ross B" but his real name is just Ross. I've never heard that name for a dog before, but we really liked it so we kept it. so how do the dogs at the track get named? and who names them? and why do you think they named him Ross?
Need link to bizarre greyhound race.? I recall seeing a greyhound lead a race and stop to leave a deposit on track and still win the race! The second dog stopped to check it out, (as dogs would do), and still placed. It was so weird that I don't blame people for finding it hard to believe. Anyone else seen this. It was on T.V. years ago.
Did I make the right decision by calling off for work today? I work at a Greyhound race track. So my job involves running in the hot sun everyday up to 4-5 hrs, literal running. We have hardly any breaks at all. Most of the time 1-2 at the most lasting only 15 minutes. The night before, I didn't get any sleep. It's not that I was up. It's that I wasn't able to fall asleep. So an entire night without any sleep. 2 hr's before work, I am dead tired, and I feel weak, and I call out. If I had something like a desk-job, or some other job with very little activity involved I wouldn't have called out. I thought it would be bad if I had gone into work and wasn't able to focus. I figured if I wasn't able to focus well because I was tired, I could have seriously screwed up, like loading one of the Greyhounds into the wrong racing box, or not noticing smaller details, like a dog possibly limping. Did I make a appropriate choice? Should I have done something differently? Like load up on caffeine or something? I've only called out twice, 1st time, due to a injury on the job, and now this time. This has been nagging at me because I am trying to be a good employee and this is something I have never called out for. Past jobs I have worked at, I would have just gone in if I was tired, but considering I have a lot of running to do at this job, and have to notice small detail, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to preform at 110%.
I want to foster dogs for the SPCA. What do I need to know? Is there some certification I need to achieve? If so, how? How does the process work? I live in Sarasota where there is a huge dog-racing track. Consequently, the majority of dogs in the shelters around here are Greyhounds. What should I know about Greyhounds? The second largest group of dog breeds in the shelters are bully breeds. What should I know about them, too? I'm aware that many of them come from fighting rings, but from personal experience, I've also known a lot of very sweet bully dogs as well. I pretty much like all dog breeds/mixed breeds, and that all dogs are different. I'm not prejudiced when it comes to that. I have good handling with dogs (I grew up with a shepherd mix who was aggressive towards men, and I helped train her). I also volunteered in a no-kill shelter in high school. Furthermore, I have two cats who are fine with dogs (which means I would have to be selective about what dogs I can take because of the cats there). I live in a fairly small house, but it has a decent-sized backyard with a high boarded fence. Thanks in advance! I really want to help and I feel that this could be a good way for me to do it. Oh, and I'm a college student (this is my last year). I will be working in the mornings and then have classes throughout the day, but I only live a five minute drive from campus and can easily pop in between classes and shifts to walk them and interact with them. I really like dogs. Jojo: I understand what you're saying, but I live with two other people who would also like to help out. For most of the afternoon and in the later evenings, I will be at home, with the dogs, because I know they need interaction. My roommates are around in the morning. If it isn't for me, then I will accept that. JUST WANT TO CLARIFY: I will have A LOT of home time on my hands because I will be writing my thesis. My work is very early in the morning (5:30-6am until the breakfast crowd arrives), and then classes are in the early afternoon. I didn't want to foster before because I was out of the house a lot, but since I will be in the house a lot, I can provide the attention a dog needs on a temporary basis.
Are greyhound breeders the scum of the earth? How many greyhound breeders will take a dog back if it doesnt work out at the track and keep it for the rest of its life? How many greyhound breeders keep up with the dogs they have bred and take an interest in it after it has stopped racings? How many greyhound breeders and owners will keep the dog after it has got too old to race? Any answers with actual statistics?
How do I keep my dog from peeing in the house!? I have an 12 year old greyhound who we adopted from the racing track about 8 years ago. He's been a wonderful dog and we've never had any serious problems with him. He was house trained when we got him and has had few accidents in the many years we've had him; mostly when taking him over to other people's houses and the pet store. I recently moved out of the house, however, and took him with me. I know it's been tough on him. He was my shadow for the first month in our new residence and he even started to pee in one area of the house [the living room where we don't spend a lot of time]. He's on the same schedule to go outside as we've always had him so I know it's because he just can't hold it anymore. And he's seemed to be well adjusted to our new living arrangement, but he's still peeing in that same area of the house. I thought he would stop after getting used to the change, but it's still happening. Any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please help!
are all ex racing greyhounds mean? I met this guy who used to work at a race track back in 1983 and he said grey hounds are the most vicious dogs next to dalmatians. He said not to get one for a pet because it would kill my cat and snap at everyone. If they are all so mean then why do people adopt them out to the public???
does this novel idea sound stupid? an 18 year old boy whose living in a trailer gets a desperately needed job with a greyhound breeder.the breeder breeds large numbers of dogs, to sell to the race track, and he races his best dog himself.the boy hates how the dogs are locked away in the kennels and treated like items in walmart.but thats nothing when he sees the man prepare to send his best dog to a laboratory, because hes "loosing his touch" the boy takes the dog,and quits the job.he loves the dog to death, but cant keep his mind off the other dogs the man still has.then his dog gets off balance, but the vet says hes fine, just getting over the abuse he had.the dog is incredibly fast.the man and boy finally bet on who gets the dog by racing them.if the boys dog wins he gets all 30 dogs to the adoption center.he gets people to sponser his dog and before long, the fate of all the greyhounds lies with that dog.if he looses the man gets him back.the dog wins, but dies of cardiac arrest due to being doped for so long

Greyhound adoption experiences.? My husband and I have been looking into adopting a Greyhound for quite some time now. Recently we found out that one of our local race tracks will be shutting down at the end of the month so there will be a lot of them that need homes. We know a lot about them and just love the breed. They are really sweet dogs. I was wondering if anyone here has adopted a Greyhound and what there experience was like? We do have another dog that we adopted, he is a Corgi/Queensland heeler mix. Well expertise, you are an idiot. I have done all the research and know about the breed. I wanted to know personal experiences. AND dogs are adopted also. I will be reporting you. We have a really big fenced in yard. Thank you, lilly, cookie and walking lady, I think you just made up my mind. I am really excited now.
How do they train Greyhounds to race.? Do you think the race tracks should finance and support the feeble and used up dogs instead of the kennels starving and slaughtering them at the end of their "run"? http://www.greyhoundracingsucks.com/grs_FloridaHeadlines.htm I agree racing should be banned. What on earth is happening to people that get their jollies off watching animals get hurt!
How to train a greyhound? I have a retired racing greyhound and I want to train him to use everyday commands as he has never used them before with living at the tracks. I have taught him stay but would like to teach him sit. I know that Greyhounds don't generally sit but it is possible. I have had dogs before and have tried all the typical training techniques such as treat in hand and going over the head, doing this by a wall so he can't walk backwards and press on his bum as I am saying sit but he is refusing to do it! Any help would be appreciated. And if anyone knows how to make a greyhound bark/howl on command that would be great. Thanks Guys.
From the discription of this dog- does he sound aloof? or not bothered about being stroked? what does he sound? like? WOW What a boy! He is SUCH a nice lad, he would make someone a fantastic first greyhound. He turns 3 this Autumn and he never made it the race track. he is living in a foster home and is clean, calm and very content. He is living with other greyhounds and enjoys daily walks with a large mixed group of dogs including a pug puppy - awwwww is kind, loving and very gentle, he loves to play with his ball and well, we just cant fault him. If you are looking for a super dog then get in touch and send your details for i just want to see if other people see if he sound aloof? :(
My dog ate soap! Will she be okay? My greyhound ate about a half of a bar of dial basic soap. I just adopted her from a race track so she isn't use to new things. I thought she might throw it up after a bit but she hasn't. she still seems fine but I want to know if anyone else has had a dog eat soap like this? Thank you ashlyy and everyone for your'e advice. Again, it has been hours at least since she ate it. I took her outside and she still seems fine and active. I'll let you know how it all comes out in a day or so. Until then I'll give her some yogurt. I've also read else where that this is normal and she will be okay.
Why are Greyhounds dog considered livestock in some states that they race in? Is this true? Do these laws make it legal to abuse Greyhounds? i want to start breeding greyhounds? i would like to start breeding greyhounds how would i go about getting my breeding license. how much property is reasonable to breed for racing. and how would i go about having the dog track kennels to care for them while they are racing.
what is this film its a few years old? its about these men who buy a greyhound to race on the track and it turns out it can't so they sell it to some gypsies and it turns out to be a good coursing dog and the former owners try to steal him back the movie is a few years ago now
Some race horses staying in a stable. One of them starts to boast? about his track record. "In the last 15 races, I've won 8 of them!" Another horse breaks in, "Well in the last 27 races, I've won 19!!" "Oh that's good, but in the last 36 races, I've won 28!", says another, flicking his tail. At this point, they notice that a greyhound dog has been sitting there listening. "I don't mean to boast," says the greyhound, "but in my last 90 races, I've won 88 of them!" The horses are clearly amazed. "Wow!" says one, after a hushed silence. "A talking dog."

skinny greyhounds? I went to a race track to see the greyhounds (never seen one before in my life) and they were all so bony! Their ribs were all visible and I could easily see their hip bones and spine. Would it kill the people to feed their dogs a little more? Or are grey hounds supposed to be that thin?
joke jokes!? The man was in no shape to drive, so he wisely left his car parked and walked home. As he was walking unsteadily along, he was stopped by a policeman. “What are you doing out here at 2 A.M.?” said the officer. “I’m going to a lecture.” the man said. “And who is going to give a lecture at this hour?” the cop asked. “My wife.” said the man* --- Some race horses staying in a stable. Are Greyhounds having fun? I love to watch and bet on the dog races. I can hear the excitement building among the dogs at the gate ready to sprint. I sometimes cringe at the crashes on that first turn. I know that they sometimes get hurt, but I don't know how hurt. I swear that I see smiles under those muzzles they wear while racing. I see tails wagging as they meet their handlers at the finish line. Overall I think they are having a great time letting it out on the track. What's your opinion? And is there a better category for this question?
Greyhound Lovers to the rescue!!!? Are there any of you in the Wichita Ks area willing to help? The track there is closing Oct 6 and the dogs need your help! Contact Race the Wind or GPA to see how you can help. Temp foster homes needed bad!!!! http://www.racethewind.org/ http://www.greyhoundpets.org/ I'm not really sure how to take Laura's remark. I wasn't "SPAMMING" or trying to sell anthing or promote myself or business. I am trying to let greyhound lovers in the area know that there will be several hundred dogs needing homes and see if there is anything they could do to help. If that constitutes spam to anyone, I'm sorry. But I will do anything legal I can to try to help in tis incident, a racetrack that is home to aprox 720 dogs is closing. Statistically only about 200 will go on to race elsewhere as Wichita is a lower quality race track and the end of the line for many racing careers. I don't work for GPA or Race the Wind or any organized 501 3C charity. I go to farms and get dogs that would otherwise be disposed of and find them homes through word of mouth. I do however feel that in a time of crisis such as this anyone who cares can make a difference.
greyhounds? We have adopted 3 and they are wonderful! We have one that will snap in her sleep if you touch her too fast, but still a sweetie. She was very abused (I believe they all were :( ) What are your experiences with these beautiful dogs and do you believe yours were abused while on the track? They always say they are not, but their physique and mannerisms when meeting new people tell a different story. I love these dogs and wish I could rescue all of them! We have rescued "Big Dog", 2 year old baby sister named him, "Buddy" and "Bella" these are the names we gave them, not the Racing names.
